An Application of Five Precepts, Developing the People’ Behaviors, the Community of Ban Mai Pattana
Abstract
The objectives of this research were; 1) to study the concept of Five Precepts in Theravada Buddhism 2) to study the condition of problems and behavior of violation of Five Precepts of the Buddhists in Ban Maipattana, Srivilai Sub-district, Srivilai District, Buengkan Province and 3) to offer the guideline of application of Five Precepts for developing the Buddhists’ behaviors in Ban Maipattana, Srivilai Sub-district, Srivilai District, Buengkan Province. This research was qualitative research by analyzing the data from Tipitaka, Buddhist academic documents, related researches and the data from interview and to report the results of research with the descriptive analysis.
The results of research were found that the precepts are the practical items for creating the living condition to enhance the various practices to reach the good goal respectively until to reach the highest goal of life.
The problems and behaviors in violating the five precepts found that the problems resulting from the violation of this item are the problems from the physical harm and quarrel. While killing an animal has been done for cooking food and some have been done for the creatural persecution. The violation of the second precept was found that the causes of stealing the property consist of the other factors in various environments. The violation of the third item was found that the sexual misconduct occurs because of the extravagance in materialism. The violation of the fourth item was that the majority is to tell a little bit lie. The violation of the fifth item was found that in addition to the problems of addicted alcohol, there are still the addicted drugs.
The path to develop the human beings’ behaviors to abstain from killing was found that killing is the self-persecution and others to be troubled and the social problems make us more troublesome.
